Why I Don't Believe in Interior Design "Rules"
Ditch the "how to" articles, lead by intuition.
I’m the type who doesn’t like to be told what to do and have always been a bit of a rule-breaker. But even-so, I wholeheartedly believe that there are no rules around how we choose to live and bring our homes to life.
If you hear a particular theory in term of styling, collecting, arranging a room that resonates, then so be it, adopt it into your own process. But I just want to remind you that you can take or leave whatever you need, just remember the ball is always in your court at your house!
Discovering your unique style, your way, your perspective comes from experimenting and learning to trust your eye.
Some thoughts…
Make up your own rules
You can make your space sing by staying true to what makes you happy. What works in your space (based on size, style, and lighting)? When you are traveling, what details capture your attention? What colors make you feel comforted? What patterns inspire you? How do you want to feel when you’re at home? When tinkering with styling or furniture placement - the only question to ask yourself is: what looks good to me?
Follow the lead of what lights you up
I learned at an early age (while going over to a friend’s incredibly warm and beautiful home) that an environment has the potential to offer so much comfort. I won’t ever forget that encounter because it changed me in the moment and since then, I have always leaned heavily on creating spaces that made me feel equal parts inspired and held.
